jet lag

I know it's going to happen, but each time it's a little different. After flying to China for Christmas break, spending three weeks there and then flying back, dealing with big time zone differences has been a frequent occurrence in my life. Your body thinks that it is day when it is night and night when day. Makes for difficulty in following conversations at about 3 in the afternoon when you're about to pass out because your body rhythms think it is 4 in the morning.

Jet lag can take me anywhere from a week to 2 days to get over. That's a pretty big range, but I think the trick is to be busy. To have things planned when you get to where you're going. That's when I've been able to get over it the fastest because I'm not dwelling on how exhausted I am. Curious how things seem to go faster when I'm not so focused on myself. But yes, this time around, I didn't have a super packed schedule. This means I woke up at 3, 4, 5 in the morning, often laying there and trying to go back to sleep, usually pretty successfully. Then there were a couple mornings when I made it to 7 am and couldn't go back to sleep.

Staying at my aunt and uncle's in the country, my uncle is usually up at the crack of dawn, doing chores around the house, feeding the horses and things, but my aunt is usually still sound asleep and the house is peacefully silent. On one morning when I couldn't go back to sleep, I happened to walk to the closed curtains and take a peek outside, expecting frosty barrenness. I was overwhelmed with an exquisite sunrise.  I couldn't take my eyes off of it. I was wearing a moose covered onesie that I had gotten as a Christmas present and so I padded out to the back deck, throwing on a vest, and brought my Canon. I tried to capture it, but don't think I was able to quite do it complete justice. I haven't learned how to piece panoramic shots, so this is the best I can do for now.

The next time I woke up at 7, God was painting this masterpiece

I don't particularly enjoy being jetlagged, but I have to admit, I never would have seen these two sunrises otherwise.

  1. beautious sunrise(s). I'm never up when the rooster crows so I tend to miss such sights. Luckily I have you to take photographic evidence of their existence. Existences that are probably in sun soaked states only. Ohio is bleak, cold, and wet. Yet does that stop college classes? Sadly not. I don't have jet lag but I am immensely tired for no outrightly explicable reason. I still have some reading and writing to do so I'm off to do that!
